Safety

The safe operation and use of power tools and their accessories are important. Always use the tool in complete compliance with the manufacturerÂ’s instructions and always wear adequate eye protection.

Operators of power driven or hand driven tools should be thoroughly trained in the use of those tools, and the accessories used with them.

 

  
     
 

Warning:

Dust and mist created by power sanding, sawing, drilling, grinding and other construction activities contains chemicals and residue from building materials and tools that are known to cause adverse health effects; cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm.

Some examples of these chemicals and ingredients are:

Lead from lead-based paints. Crystalline silica from bricks and cement. Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated wood. Carbide inserts (cemented carbide) used in masonry drill bits and carbide-tipped saws as well as other carbide-tipped products contain tungsten carbide, cobalt, tantalum carbide, chromium carbide or chromium.

Risk from these exposures varies depending on how often this type of work is performed and the amount of individual exposure. To reduce the amount of exposure to harmful chemicals and materials:

  • Work in a well ventilated area

  • Avoid breathing in dust or mist

  • Use approved methods of dust and mist control

  • Avoid prolonged skin contact with dust or mist

  • Consult the power tool manual for proper use of the power tool and safety equipment requirements.

  • Use approved safety and protective equipment: Gloves, shields, dust masks, protective clothing, tool guards, etc.
